November  2008 NEWSLETTER

Chapter Director Thoughts
We had a few more nice warm riding days.  Hasn’t this been great?  We hope it will
continue for awhile.  We would like to ride year round if we could but we are thankful for
the days we do get to ride.  We have so many things to be thankful for.  The price
of gas has finally come down; we have a warm place to live and plenty to eat.
We have a wonderful family and great friends through GWRRA.  But mostly we
are thankful that there are only 2 more days to election and the ads will be
off the TV and out of the ditches!
Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you!

Chapter News

What a great turn out at the Tiger Tavern in Osmond.  We had 37 people out for the evening
and as usual Bob went out of his way to provide us delicious food and fast service.  He is such a
great supporter of the GWRRA group that he always gives a gift certificate as one of the door prizes. T
hank you to Jerry and Shirley Hoffart hosts for the get-together and for the door prizes they provided.
We had a really fun time!
We went to the District Planning meetings in Columbus today.  We visited with friends from
all over Nebraska and we learned interesting things for our districts future with the rider
education folks, the Membership Enhancement  folks, the Leadership Training folks and of course
from Lance and Diane Brozek our District Directors.  We have information on upcoming events
for our district such as the Cabin Fever Weekend and The District Rally.  We will be sharing
that information with you at the monthly get-togethers and in the newsletters in the months to
come as the information becomes available to us.
There were eighteen of us who met in Riverside Park in Yankton for the dedication of the new
Discovery Bridge.  We took a few nice pictures of the bikes and vans crossing the Meridian Bridge.
It was a cloudy, chilly and damp day so no long rides materialized that day.    Only a few went
to the dedication ceremony and  across the Discovery Bridge that day but most of us have been
across it since.  There were a lot of people taking their last ride or two across the
Meridian Bridge that day.
We would like to introduce you to Traci Snyder.  Traci is the daughter of Chapter member
Larry and Carla Peters from O’Neill.  Some of you may know Traci as she and her husband
ride motorcycles and have been at some of the same outings that we have been at.  You
may remember her from Cabin Fever weekend in Norfolk a few years ago.  Traci has had
health problems since she was born and now needs a double lung transplant.  Carla told me
she left today to see some doctors in St Louis.  The good people in O’Neill are having a
benefit soup supper at the Eagles Club November 15 from 4:30 to 8:00 pm.  We would like
to show our support but many of us have other things planned and just can’t make it so we
want to have a poker run and try to help out Traci and her family.  Of course it is the wrong
time of the year for an actual poker run so it will be a mock poker run.  We will have the
decks of cards at our get-together in Yankton at JoDeans at our Chapter get together on Nov. 19
at 7pm...   The cost of the run will be $10 each bike or $15 a couple.  There will be prizes for
the top 3 hands.  Deb Holmes is graciously donating an item or items for a silent auction.  This
should be a lot of fun and what a perfect time of the year to help out others in need.  The
chapter will be giving a donation too!  If you are unable to come to the get-together and would
like to help out Traci and her family just send you donation to us and we will be sure that it is
included with our gifts.  Our address is PO Box  622 Randolph, NE  68771.
Don’t forget our other Thanksgiving Project too.  Please bring an item for a Woman’s Shelter or
a Food Bank. Some items could include paper napkins, toilet paper, Kleenex, feminine hygiene
products, soap and laundry supplies or canned goods.  Please give the items to Denise Stevens
as she is spearheading this project.

Have a Happy and safe Thanksging

Rider Education

In October a questionnaire was distributed to all of the members that were present.
This questionnaire represent a great opportunity for each and every member to participate
in the direction and guidance of our District Rider Education Program.  Can our Rider
Program be made better?  You bet it can!

This questionnaire is an opportunity to be heard, to make your desires known,
and to be able to steer the Rider Education Program in the direction we, as members
of the Nebraska District, want it to go.  Please take the time to complete this questionnaire
and bring it to the November gathering.  The information will be compiled and reviewed
and the results will be presented to the District Membership, hopefully, no later than
December of this year.  We have a great program, but if we can make it better then it
would be an even greater program.  Thank You in advance for your participation.
We want all riders and co-riders to ride safely.

compile all the monies and have these amounts ready for the December gathering
where the lucky numbers drawn will receive the $$$$$$$$$.  So if you have not
purchased any tickets and you wish to do so see me at the November gathering.
