Greetings to my GWRRA family,

Please pass the following on to your members.  All are welcome.

Below you will find some information about an upcoming event Prarie Red Riders, out of Rod's is sponsoring.  As you can see it is a very worthwhile event.  Not only that, but I believe it would be extremely beneficial to our little struggling chapter to have a strong showing from GWRRA at this event.  Please consider participating if you are able and wear your GWRRA attire.  Ronny and I would both appreciatte it very much and we think you will have a lot of fun too...Did I mention there will be ice-cream involved?

Local bikers hold Fun Run to benefit kids. Motorcyclist are invited to join the Prairie Red Riders for

their 2nd annual Fun Run “For the Kids” Saturday, July 17. All proceeds will be taken to Kansas City

the following week-end and given to the Ride for Kids® program. The Ride for Kids program supports

the efforts of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to find the cause and cure for childhood brain

tumors. They host rides in dozens of major cities across the country each year. HRCA has been the

presenting sponsor for the Ride for Kids since 1991. Each year the program raises millions of dollars

for pediatric brain tumor research. The PBTF is the official charity of the Honda Rider's Club of

America (HRCA). Prairie Red Riders are affiliated with the HRCA and participate in the Kansas City

Ride for Kids each year.

The ride will leave from Rod's Power Sports at the Northwest corner of Highway #77 and Saltillo.

Registration is from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. Awards at 3 p.m. Bikers will ride to Homestead National

Monument where they will answer an observation questionnaire before heading back to Rod's through

the July 17th event. For more information contact Ronny or Carol Aden at 402 310-3312 or

Rider Education

As we tour across America we find that there are a lot of road hazards to deal with if you are a motorcyclist such as alleyways, raised pavement edges, railroad tracks, loose sand, sunken manhole covers, white plastic arrows glued onto the pavement and  milled roadways with many of these in cities.  Out here in the rural areas as we are riding the

twisty back roads that are so exciting we have a different types of hazards with one of the major ones being the four-legged variety.  Statistically vehicle collisions are still the major motorcycling hazard but as our motorcycling skills increase and other drivers learn to be aware of and respect the motorcycle the danger decreases.  But with animal strikes the danger level remains high because they are so unpredictable.  One thing we can do to protect ourselves is to learn and understand the animal’s instincts and habits.  Deer for example hide during the day and move and eat at dusk and dawn also be aware of areas that have a large population of deer such as forests, riverbanks with timber or bottom ground with timber.  They also pose a danger because they blend in so well with their surroundings.  Pay attention to deer crossing signs as they are put there for a reason.  Do you know how they determine the placement for these signs?  They count the dead deer carcasses and if there are too many the sign goes up.  When approaching a deer crossing sign it is suggested to drop your speed 10 MPH to give yourself more reaction time.  When you spot a deer along the road the best evasive tactic is not to try to “outsmart” the deer but to hard brake and slow down and let the deer make the first move.  Ride safe so that we can all ride another day!
