Chapter Director Thoughts

Greetings to our Friends and Goldwing Family.  By now I’m sure you have all heard the sad news that Lance’s brother Dan passed away. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Lance and Diane and all the Brozek family.  Hey!  What is happening?  There is water running down the sides of the streets, and slush in the middle, in the alleys and I think I stepped in some mud yesterday.  It looks like we are finally getting a break in the weather. Sure makes it seem like the riding season is coming soon.  It must be.  I just got off the phone making somereservations for some rides and rallies this summer.  We finally got a room on the 4th try in Des Moines.  So now I need to send in the registration.  We also have the Nite-Out Rider Schedules done and have  handed some of them out Can’t wait to start riding!

Chapter News

Wow!  What a get-together!  50 Riders met at the Tiger tavern in Osmond NE on the 24th.  Bob the owner told me that he thought everyone had Cabin Fever and I had to agree.  Told him we couldn’t meet there anymore if we get any bigger and he said he’ll close the place down for us and have a buffet if need be.  We want to thank Roger and Joyce Tacey and Dennis and Sharon Schultze for hosting the evening.  They purchased a slice of pie for everyone.  The food and pie is always delicious and the service is timely.     We introduced some new members and welcomed them to our Chapter.  They are Randy and Karen Halpin from Battle Creek and we are very pleased to welcome them to our Chapter and hope they can ride with us this summer.  We also did introductions all the way around as we had a lot of new and older member with us who don’t know each other too well yet.  Hang out with Chapter NE and you will get to know each other and have another family and group of friends!

Next we had the privilege of presenting our new Chapter Couple of the Year for 2010.  They are Holly and Gretchen Holiday.  We are so pleased and proud that they our Chapter NE’s newest COY couple!  They help out with the newsletter monthly and help by keeping the personal data on the members.  They are in the Levels program and are great friends and fun people to ride with.  They go to a lot of the chapter events and some of the other rallies and events and are always willing to lend a helping hand where it is needed.  Congratulations Holly and Gretchen!

The Bowling Party at the Spare Time Alley brought 10 members together to enjoy an afternoon of visiting and Mike and Gary showed us their bowling skills. Everyone that attended had a really nice time.
Cindi is trying to finish up the mileage chart and get the results to Marv for his special tally.  We hope to have all the results and prizes ready to be announced at the next get-together.
There was a favorable amount of people who want to do the dart game again this year so we will ask Lance to bring his special cards and maps and we will chart where everyone will be going.  Don’t forget, if you played the game last year to bring the results (your picture) to the next get-together and collect your
prize and give the picture to Cindi to put in the dart scrapbook.
We have decided to make a Poster collage with our Roadrunner pictures and destinations.  We hope to have this done in time to add it to our chapter table at the District Rally.  Paulette Gross has agreed to put this all together and make the poster so please bring your Picture with the Roadrunner and a little information about that picture to the next get-together and give it to her.
We are still planning a pie and ice cream social on Sunday March 28th at 2pm at Jerry’s Hilltop.  We are asking for some volunteers to make a pie and bring it.  We will purchase the ice cream from Hilltop.  We have asked Bill and Nancy James, the District LTD Couple to come and share some more information with us.  We thought we’d have them cover what is a chapter and Chapter Life and maybe another topic or two.  We are open to suggestions and we have a list of topics they would share with us.  They are the new OCP trainers for our Region and have been very busy traveling and teaching these classes in other districts.  Our turn will be coming and they encourage everyone to take the classes. The classes are free and we understand they are well worth the time.  They will share a little more about the classes at the pie and ice cream social.  Who knows?  We may even be able to ride to that one.

Rider Education

Gee Whiz we might just have the chance to get our Babies out this weekend.  We probably can't go too far but at least we may get a short ride.    Take a minute and check over those emergency information papers that we all carry in the left-fairing pocket.  Might just be such a thing that you became allergic to a medicine or maybe your home and phone number changed and this is all necessary information if you have that accident.  I know that we would all like to think that this will never happen to me or you but YOU NEVER KNOW.  Also make sure that you have ICE on your cell phone.  ICE stands for IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.  All you need to do is put ICE in front of the name of the person that is to be first contacted in case of an accident (i.e. ICE BILL SMITH) followed by his phone number.  If you get a new cell phone there may be 3 ICE spaces available. Thank You.   Dallas

March LTD Newsletter: OCP

Nancy and I participated in the first Region E OCP (Officer Certification Program) presented in Davenport IA.  There were about 60 attendees, which included District Directors, their Assistants plus the Region Operations Team, and 12 OCP trainers from 6 states in the Region [ND & SD don’t have LTD Trainers].  What was interesting was seeing people’s perception before and after the one and a half day class and then their reactions during and at the end of the program.  Everyone seemed to have a new outlook on the program as well as their positions.  We came away not only believing every member deserves a well-trained leader but also that the leaders believed it also and everyone came away learning new things regardless of how long they had been a GWRRA member.

Here is a quote from Dave Carter [past Region E Director and now Region E LTD Trainer] newsletter, “In Region E the LTD Trainers who have been given this task have until August 31, 2010 to get all Directors and Assistant Directors certified. The seminar is open to ALL members, not just officers.”

In NE we won’t set the date for training until after March 10th replies.  However, as was sent out earlier, there are ample opportunities to take OCP - the soonest being in Des Moines, IA on March 20 and 21.  Let Bill and Nancy James know by March 10 if you plan to go to Des Moines.  If you have any questions at all about this program and the timing, give us a call.
